The new Mustang Mall and Pedestrian Plaza was officially opened on Fri. Sept 4 with remarks by President Turner.

Thirty-one thousand new plants, 82 trees, and 83,000 square-feet of paved stone make up the Mall.

The Dedman Foundation, Cele and John Carpenter, and Bob and Myrna Schlegel donated to make the Mall possible.

The Schlegel family donated all the paved stone for the plaza. They have had four children graduate from SMU. Bob Schlegel said they’ve grown up watching SMU and enjoy the visiting campus.

“It’s a great use of our product, paving stones,” Schlegel said. “It shows a great example to the city and country what you can do with decorative pavement and environment friendly products.”

President Turner and the Board of Trustees hopes to soon get 56 new benches installed along the Mall.
