Karen Nicholson, the office manager for Texas Senator John Cornyn, watched the mass of students milling through the crowded Hughes-Trigg ballroom Wednesday Sept 16.

Nicholson, like the dozens of other employers at the Career and Internship fair, had high expectations while looking for candidates at SMU.

“We have had SMU students as interns and as employees in our offices,” Nicholson said. “SMU does a really good job at training and preparing their students for the real world.”

The fair, organized by the Hegi Family Career Development Center, offered hundreds of attending students the chance to meet with recruiters from over 80 companies.

“Getting the chance to interact with the recruiters instead of just dropping off my resume will definitely be beneficial in the end,” Senior Rita Rodriguez said.

Despite the diminishing number of jobs companies are offering, Darin Ford, Director of the Career Center, was excited to see the number of companies looking for future employees.

“We try to find companies that are offering positions and internships to all majors” Ford said.
