Arts Blogs: Dallas Offers Variety in Music

I can’t tell you how much I enjoy the music scene in Dallas.

I must admit when I came to SMU three short years ago, I thought it would be all big hair and cowboy boots, Texas two stepping and country music. And while I’ve seen plenty of big hair and heard plenty of country music (enough for a lifetime, in fact), I am amazed at Dallas’s impressive indie music scene.

With several venues like The Palladium Ballroom and The Granada, it’s easy (and affordable) to see at least one good show a week.

On Halloween, the band Ghostland Observatory rocked a packed Palladium Ballroom with a ridiculous laser light show. Just last week Pretty Lights played at The Granada. And Rooney is scheduled to perform there in December and The Avett Brothers in January.

So stop complaining about the economy and go see a cheap (and, of course, good) show!
