Recently, Facebook has become very popular in Germany and actually launched a German-language version of the social networking site in March of 2009. With help from German-speaking users that voted on the best German words for Facebook lingo such as “poke,” Facebook was able to make their site more user friendly for the German market.

However, the biggest social networking site in the country is StudiVZ, which boasts 15 million users that are students from 12 to 18 years of age. StudiVZ provides many features that Facebook provides such as a personal page, photographs, groups, and private messaging for its members.

Although Germany is just getting involved in social networking, social media has become increasingly more popular. It has become global with more countries than ever involved in sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. Social media makes it easier to be in contact with people all around the world and has become an important communication tool in today’s society, leading most of today’s businesses to get involved with social media in one way or another.
