The ladies and gentlemen of Pi Beta Phi and Sigma Phi Epsilon were all smiles as their interpretation of Walt Disney’s “Mary Poppins” won over the audience and judges of SMU’s 22nd annual Sing Song performance Friday night in McFarlin Auditorium. Leads Annie Bures and Patrick Probst sung their hearts out to win best male and female leads of the night.

The theme for Sing Song this year was Walt Disney movies. Twelve different sororities and fraternities paired up with one another to try to out-dance and out-sing one another in a flying competition. From can-can lines with flips to multiple basket tosses, Sing Song 2010 was a step above the rest.  There was even a cross-dressing Greek goddess in Beta Theta Pi and Alpha Chi Omega’s rendition of “Hercules.”

Magician Trigg Burrage, an SMU sophomore, hosted the event and provided the audience with live tricks and entertainment in between acts. But the truly incredible performances were the ones that these SMU students have been working on all semester long. From memorizing song lyrics that had to be written to the original tune of the songs- to getting the right footing, the students involved captivated audiences with their Broadway-worthy talents. With parents’ weekend being held the same weekend for several Greek organizations, a good time was had by all different age groups.
