SMU senior wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders was taken in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers Friday night.

Sanders was the 82nd overall pick and the 18th in the third round, the highest pick for an SMU player since 1987. Sanders was the sixth wide receiver taken in the draft. He was taken off the board two picks before consecutive University of Texas picks Jordan Shipley and Colt McCoy.

Sanders was named an Honorable Mention All-American by SI.com and a first-team All-Conference USA performer in 2009. He ranks as SMU’s all-time leader in career catches, TD catches and yards, single-season and single-game receptions and single-season yardage.

Sanders finished 2009 with a team high 98 receptions for 1,339 yards and 7 touchdowns. In his final collegiate game, Sanders had seven catches for 124 yards and a score in helping SMU to a 45-10 win over Nevada in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl.

Hello, Mr. Sanders I am so proud of you!!!!!!!!!! I hope you remember me, I was your Mom’s charge nurse at Gazebo Terrace when she worked there. She still calls me and let me know how you are doing. When you was still in high school you would come to the job sometimes and sit on my lap, you was so skinny(LOL). You’re a big handsome young man now, just keep your head on straight, and God will do the rest. Will you please send me a picture of you in your Steeler get up. This is my address 610 Whitfield St. Brenham, Texas77833. I have a picture of you when you was in high school in your football get up, and one of you at SMU. This will complete my collection!!!!!! Be sweet and stay humble. Your other Granny(Mrs. Ann)
