The No. 31 women’s tennis team will face the No. 43 Pepperdine University Waves in the first round of this year’s NCAA Championship May 14 in Stanford, Calif.

SMU (23-4) is making its second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championships, having won last season’s first-round matchup against Texas A&M before falling to the No. 4 Baylor Bears in the second round.

The Mustangs have won 11 of their last 13 matches overall, dating back to early March.

Pepperdine (12-13) had won six in a row before falling to Saint Mary’s University in the West Coast Conference Championship final Apr. 25 in San Diego.

The winner of the SMU-Pepperdine matchup will advance to the second round against either Fairfield University (19-5) or the No. 8 Stanford Cardinal (20-1) on May 15.
