SMU junior Marta Lesniak has been named Conference USA Tennis Athlete of the Week after being an instrumental part in her team’s win over the weekend against No. 60 Fresno State.

The No. 5 singles player in the nation closed out Fresno State’s No. 99 Marianne Jodoin 6-3, 6-1 at the top singles position, giving her team the first singles point and an early 2-0 lead.

She also contributed to the doubles point earlier in the day by teaming up with Aleksandra Malyarchikova to down their opponents 8-5 at the No. 1 doubles position. The 6-1 win boosted SMU’s season record to 9-2.

Lesniak’s season record in singles is 8-2, with wins in the last six of seven matches. Along with Malyarchikova, she carries a 7-3 doubles record.

This is Lesniak’s first Athlete of the Week of her junior year and the sixth recognition of her career.

The SMU women’s tennis team next faces Tulsa on home turf Friday at the Turpin Tennis Center. Play starts at 2 p.m.
