Going into the Conference USA tournament seeded number one was harder than others expected. We had a target on our backs because everyone wanted to take down the conference champs.

Our first game versus Eastern Carolina was difficult because we played most of the game without our team captain — “the beast,” Delisha Wills. We beat ECU and advanced to the semi-final game versus Central Florida, who defeated us in a tough battle to head to the championship game.

The next week of practice was intense and difficult because we felt that we could have made it to the NCAA tournament. We did, however, qualify to play in the WNIT. We get a chance to extend our season, and we hope to win this post-season tournament. On Thursday, we play at Louisiana Tech in the first round.

Next year’s team returns all but two seniors, Elbie Gates and Britney Allen. Our plan for this tournament is to prepare ourselves for next year’s team and look to fully develop.
