Part of Daniel Avenue is closed off today until 5:15pm due to a small lab fire at Fondren Science Building. Southern Methodist University sent out an email to students about the accident, alerting them to the street closure.

Several fire trucks are at the scene. Police are blocking off the streets and the immediate surrounding area of campus not letting students or pedestrians near the building. A helicopter circled the area around 4:30pm and men in hazard suits were seen going into the building. Fox 4 channel news is also at the scene.

SMU Daily Mustang will update the story as more information becomes available.

UPDATE 6:12pm

Daniel Avenue is now open. All police cars and fire trucks have left the area.

According to SMU spokesman Kent Best, two students, one visiting faculty member and and SMU professor were in the lab at the time of the fire. One of the students was treated for minor burns on her leg at the SMU Health Center.
