SMU students and the local community came out to see the Vagina Monologues Friday evening in the Hughes-Trigg Student Theater.

V-Day, a global activist movement to stop violence against women and girls, hosted the event. Local volunteers and college students produce the annual performance of Vagina Monologues each year to educate and alter social views towards violence against women.

The monologues tell the stories of women struggling with their sexuality and struggling with themselves. The play was both humorous and serious with monologues like, “Hair” that talked about a woman’s husband that cheated on her because she didn’t shave her vagina.

“The Flood” addressed a more serious issue about a woman dealing with cancer. All proceeds from the event went to the Dallas Area Rape Crisis Center. In the past eleven years, the V-Day organization has reached over 300 million people and raised over $80 million.
