Five straight Conference USA semifinals over the last five seasons have all ended in disappointments for the No. 72 SMU men’s tennis team after a 4-1 loss to No. 36 Tulsa.

After winning both the No. 1 singles match and No. 1 doubles match, the Mustangs couldn’t earn another win.

SMU’s No. 1 singles player Artem Baradach, ranked No. 63 in the ITA, upset No. 35 Marcelo Arevalo, 6-4, 6-2.

I’m really proud of our guys,” said SMU Head Coach Carl Neufeld in a press release. “We won No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles and most of the time you’re able to win the match doing that. You have to tip your hat off to Tulsa for a well played contest.”

The Mustangs finished the season 15-12 after winning eight of their last ten.
