The journey has truly come full circle for me. I worked at the Democratic National Convention in Denver last summer, where I watched the first African-American accept the nomination to run as the Democratic presidential candidate. And yesterday, I was here in D.C. to watch Obama be sworn in as the 44th president. While I wasn’t on the mall, I was fortunate enough to see him and his motorcade race down 14th Street last night in between inaugural balls.

The parade is almost an hour behind schedule but everyone is still crowding Pennsylvania Avenue. I would pay big bucks to be one of the lucky few to see Obama get out of the car and wave directly at them. Wouldn’t anyone be excited?

The Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center was stuffed with over 12,000 Texans Monday night at the Black Tie and Boots inaugural ball.
I was surprised to see how many SMU alumni have moved up to Washington D.C. I worked the SMU booth for a couple of hours last night and got to meet about 30 Mustangs working up in the D.C. area.
Bands were constantly coming on and off the stage. We had great entertainment, amazing Tex-Mex food (hard to come by up here) and even stars like Denzel Washington and Matthew McConaughey were celebrating among the crowd.
