The best things come in threes. This past NFL draft weekend proved it. Former SMU Mustangs Emmanuel Sanders, Bryan McCann, and Shawnbrey McNeal can now call themselves NFL players.

The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Sanders in the third round of the draft. McCann and McNeal were both signed Saturday evening as undrafted free agents.
McCann received a call from Houston on Friday requesting he not make a decision about signing until after the draft. They were interested in him for free agency. The Indianapolis Colts and Dallas Cowboys followed up with similar requests.

“Halfway through the seventh round, Houston made an offer. Indy called and made a lower offer, but reconsidered when they heard what Houston had offered. Then came the call from Dallas,” McCann said.

After a bidding war between the Houston Texans, the Indianapolis Colts, and the Dallas Cowboys, McCann chose to stay local and sign with the Cowboys.

“I weighed my options and determined that Dallas was the best option for me in terms of making a roster cut, the best chance of playing time, and the team personnel,” McCann said.

McNeal was also signed as an undrafted free agent, but with the San Diego Chargers.
