SMU Men’s Tennis Suffer Loss in C-USA Semifinals

The SMU Men’s Tennis team was defeated by Rice 4-1 in the semifinal round of the Conference USA Championship Tournament on Saturday.

The Mustangs earned the doubles point with two of three match wins.

SMU’s Adham el-Effendi and Darren Walsh downed Christian Saravia and Michael Nuesslein 8-4, while Gaston Cuadranti and Artem Baradach captured an 8-5 win over Rice’s Peter Frank and Sam Garforth-Bles.

In singles, Rice won four straight matches in a row for the overall win and a seat in the championship game.

Nuesslein defeated Tobias Flood 6-0, 6-2, while Garforth-Bles gained another point with his win over Mischa Nowicki, 6-4, 6-1. Saravia downed Walsh in a drawn out battle, with sets of 7-6 (7-2), 2-6, 6-4.

The final SMU loss came with No. 47 Badarach’s 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 loss against No. 108 Harry Fowler.

The Mustangs finish their season with a record of 17-9.
