SMU students and other Dallasites held posters Sunday night in front of former President George W. Bush’s home in Dallas thanking him for his dedication to the country after news of Osama bin Laden’s death hit the news.

The home on Daria Place in Preston Hollow, about a mile north of SMU, was a meeting place for Bush fans and those celebrating the death of man who the U.S. government holds responsible for the worst terrorist act on American soil.

Visitors waved American flags and held signs like one that read “President Obama forgot to say…’Thank You President Bush!’” Others began to chant “U.S.A.” and some even brought red and blue balloons to hang on the gate of the residence.

In an e-mail statement released by the office of President George W. Bush he said:

“Earlier this evening, President Obama called to inform me that American forces killed Osama bin Laden, the leader of the al Qaeda network that attacked America on September 11, 2001. I congratulated him and the men and women of our military and intelligence communities who devoted their lives to this mission. They have our everlasting gratitude. This momentous achievement marks a victory for America, for people who seek peace around the world, and for all those who lost loved ones on September 11, 2001. The fight against terror goes on, but tonight America has sent an unmistakable message: No matter how long it takes, justice will be done.”

Those pukes trying to give “failure” Bush credit for Osama’s death are pure morons. The Obama administration pulled this off, period. Bush’s consistantly poor decision making is the reason we didn’t catch Osama sooner.

What did President Bush Jr. do to get Osama? How about you thank the military and not a politician who wasn’t that concerned about getting the dirt bag.

    Dear. President Bush,

I want to thank you for the job that you did to capture Osama bin Laden. By that, I mean, I want to thank you for the job you didn’t do. Instead of surrounding yourself with competent people, you surrounded yourself with ideologues, people like those above who can see empirical evidence of your failings and celebrate you nonetheless. Instead of doing your job, you were fishing or golfing or clearing brush (That’s funny.). And due to your incompetence, you afforded bin Laden 10 extra years of life during which he launched terrorist attacks against US allies in Europe, sent me off to do my dirty work, and dragged the US into two protracted wars in the Middle East, his ultimate goal. Thank you, sir, . . . just for being you.

    Love,
The guy with the burnt crotch

  11. Walt Hearns on May 2nd, 2011 2:33 am

You kids are F@#$%! in the head. You’re thanking the guy that DIDN’T find Bin Laden. Your sign SHOULD have read, thanks to the brave Navy Seals, the CIA, and OF COURSE President Obama.

  12. Walt Hearns on May 2nd, 2011 2:38 am

I guess you are right about “forgetting” to thank Bush. Because Bush F@#$%! UP, and didn’t catch Bin Laden, OBAMA WILL GET ALL THE CREDIT. So I guess thank you Bush for being incompetent.

  13. Bill Johnson on May 2nd, 2011 2:55 am

I saw your picture on another website, and had to come here to see the idiots thanking the guy that LET BIN LADEN GO. If you retards can get a refund on your tuition I think that would be fair. You clearly aren’t very bright.

They are helping the young people ,forgien, illegeal , f but not the rest of the americans . Bush is the reason why we went in to recession and I would not say thank you to him. Wake up America

  20. Christopher on May 2nd, 2011 8:36 am

    “Thank you President Bush?”

If Mr. Bush hadn’t been so incompetent as to invade a country that had nothing to do with 9/11, this particular “mission accomplished” would have been attained years ago – saving the U.S. billions of dollars and thousands of service members lives.

  21. Bryan on May 2nd, 2011 8:56 am

Seriously? Thank you President Bush? For what…his dad gettting into bed with Osama…. For what, allowing the attacks to happen to begin with?

Come on sheep….stop following the a** in front of you and actually use your own brain….BUSH WAS THE WORST PRESIDENT EVER, if we owe him a thank you, it’s for finally leaving the white house and keeping his mouth shut!

BUSH HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT!!!

How small does your brain have to be to thank G.W. Bush for anything. Bin Laden should have been taken care of in 01-02 if Bush didn’t go on his wild goose chase/ vendetta in Iraq. He even said that he wasn’t concerned with Bin Laden’s whereabouts a few years into this stupid war.

  26. Brent Welch on May 2nd, 2011 9:26 am

  27. Ted on May 2nd, 2011 9:27 am

A lot of people don’t know that Bush was a close friend and business partner of Osama Bin Laden’s older brother Saleh in the early 80′s. What an irony.

  28. Liz on May 2nd, 2011 9:35 am

Why should Obama thank former Pres. Bush? — We went to war with the wrong country IRAQ. REMEMBER? Killed innocent people, taking money from medicare and social security. Where have you kids been? Talke to your grandmothers and Moms. I’m sure they know.

  29. evans on May 2nd, 2011 9:36 am

And why are they thanking him? Some people just can’t face the TRUTH can they? If it was reversed, would they be thanking PRESIDENT OBAMA? NOT!! God know all of your hearts. FEAR THAT!!

  30. voice of reason on May 2nd, 2011 9:45 am

I don’t understand why President Obama should thank former President G. W. Bush. Bush is the one that gave the bin Ladin family safe flight out of the U.S. without bothering to ask where their wayward, terrorist family member may be. Furthermore, “W.” began the 2nd war in Iraq in hopes of finding bin Laden who clearly wasn’t there.

Obama does not owe former Pres. G. W. Bush a thank you. To bad these students at S.M.U. are right wing numb nuts. They give a bad name to the school.

  34. Angela Washington on May 2nd, 2011 9:50 am

George Bush had nothing to do with capturing Bin Laden if it had not been for Geroge Bush we would not have lost our sons, daughters, husbands, wives, uncles, aunts neices, nephews or neighbors. The celebration should be outside the white house not the residence of ex President W. George Bush.

  35. Greg on May 2nd, 2011 10:11 am

For the guy in the video who thinks Obama took too much credit for it. Who do think got the job done. Bush said he didn’t even think about Bin Laden anymore a few years into our two wars. All of the credit goes to Obama, our other military leaders, and the navy seals who carried out the mission all of whom stayed focused on Bin Laden and Al Queda and who got the job done in two years where Bush had almost 8 and let the criminal escape. I’m always fascinated how the right wing can spin anything to try and take away credit from Obama and give credit to someone who was more interested in Iraq where not much was going on but where we lost countless lives and treasure.

It’ amazes me that the backwards thinking young man all but said President Bush is the cause if Bin Laden of death and President Obama is taking the credit. Bush had 8 years and Obama did it in little over 2 by staying the course and letting our military due their jobs…Most of you backwards think so call conservatives don’t remember when Bin Laden was cornered and was allowed to escape during the Bush administration…. I pitty such people that let their political idealogy influence their thinkink…If it was reversed what would be thier thoughts….. I like both Presidents…But some are as backwards as the KKK

  42. Steve on May 2nd, 2011 10:30 am

Obama may have tweaked the sights and pulled the trigger, but Bush supplied the rifle, loaded the clip and did the initial aiming by putting the infrastructure in place in Afghanistan, which, by the way, was panned by Obama all during his campaign. Unfortunately, Obama is going to ride that wave all the way to 2012.

  43. Jill on May 2nd, 2011 10:37 am

As I would not want anyone rejoicing that I was dead or thanking anyone I was dead, I find it hard to rejoice that Osama bin Laden is dead or thank anyone that he is dead. I can not help that some of my fellow students have not matured enough to realize that they too are mortal nor can I help that most of them were not yet in high school when 9/11 occurred and therefore do not have an adult memory of life before 9/11.

To all you leftist political hacks taking jabs at Bush: Obviously, it took our military and intelligence agencies nearly ten years to find this guy and set him to room temperature. The fact that you and Obama will score political points for this happening during Obama’s presidency is not surprising; I guess president Bush would have gladly taken those points had it happened on his watch. However, you’re claiming Bush “dropped the ball” just shows how desparate you are in continuing to attack Bush in an attempt to make Obama appear competent.

Cheers to our military and intelligence people for a job well done. And “Yes”… Cheers to President Bush for starting and relentlessly pursuing this mission and to Obama for seeing it to the final outcome.

CIA operative says Bush let Bin Laden escape. The top CIA counterterrorism officer who tracked Osama bin Laden through the mountains of Afghanistan says the United States could have captured the terrorist leader if President George W. Bush had devoted the necessary resources to the hunt and capture.

In addition, says Gary Bernsten, a decorated espionage officer who led a paramilitary unit code-named “jawbreaker” in the war that toppled the Taliban after the Septemeber 11 attacks. He says his Jawbreaker team tracked bin Laden to Afghanistan’s Tora Bora region late in 2001 and could have killed or captured the Al Qaeda leader there if military officials had agreed to his request for an additional force of about 800 U.S. trooops. BUT the admistration was already gearing up for war with Iraq and troops were never sent, allowing Bin Laden to escape.

Bush let Bin Laden Escape to Justify the Iraq War.

  56. Alex on May 2nd, 2011 11:05 am

Thank you President Bush for keeping the terrorists on the run for the 8 years you were in office. Thank you President Bush for building our Military and Intelligence complex so that we can perform these types of operations. Thank you to President Bush for pursuing a lead four years ago about a courier of Bin Laden’s. And finally, thank you President Obama for pursuing this lead, and giving the order to execute this raid.

And thanks to all the intelligence officers and military personnel which pulled it all together. This is a huge victory for our country.

I am happy that information involving the plans for this operation was kept as secret as possible to try to insure it’s success. It isn’t important to me to see any pictures for proof that Bin Laden is dead. I’m glad to know finally that the government doesn’t mind that he is. Even though I realize there could be more terrorist attacks because of this I know that can’t be allowed to keep us from going after a man like this.If the number of people throughout the world who have died because of this man are in the thousands, the number of family members who wanted justice number in the tens of thousands not to mention all of the rest of us who condemn his actions. I felt bad for president Bush for having to deal with such a tragedy and for all of the people of the world who will have to continue to deal with anyone like Osama Bin Laden.

I am thankful for W. Thankful for his passion for our nation and his zeal for freedom and liberty. The Middle East is on the long road to peaceful democracy and will one day have President Bush and the brave men and women of our armed forced to thank for planting the seeds of liberty in Iraq and beyond.

Afganistan will be much harder to turn and Bush knew this, though his decision to disrupt the terrorist there was the right one.

Glad that bin Laden is no longer a force for evil in our world. I have no doubt that President Bush was a great force for good. Obama is seeking to be the same and we would be a better nation if political hacks on both sides would be wise enough to see the big picture.

Yes ! We got one radical muslim…yes, the top dog. However, now, we will need to be ever so vigilant at every corner, and in between…for retribution attacks. Are any of you aware that there are 6.1 million muslims in our country ? We are the United States Of America…key word, United. Let us not quibble over every point scored by whoever, but rather let us become a non-scorekeeper, with the good of our country in mind….and, yes, if that means bagging every muslim up, and sending them home, so be it !

  67. Pamela on May 2nd, 2011 11:26 am

Oh please STOP the partisan politics! Osama declared war twice on the USA…in 1996 and 1998. He and his group Al Queda also had more than 5 successful terrorist attacks on US assets …all during the Clinton presidency. According to the 9/11 commission the military under Clinton had Osama in their sights but Clinton was afraid to give the order for several reasons. Then Bush was elected and we suffered 9/11. His military and foreign intelligence had been reduced in capacity under Clinton when Clinton was balancing the budget etc… During Bushs’ years the military sought Osama. Finding one man with huge personal resources (Osama inherited $80million when he was a teenager) is like finding a needle in a hay stack… plus there are lots of Muslims who protected Osama making his discovery harder. I think this country owes Bush an apology for the incorrect blame laid at his feet. I also think this country should be thanking Bush, Obama but most importantly the military for keeping their noses to the ground to get a wiff of Osama and then doing their duty! So cut the crap!!! Al Queda hates USA and the west because we’re not following Sharai law…pure and simple. It doesn’t matter who was president! So stop this bickering and trying to rewrite history and the facts.

  68. Robin on May 2nd, 2011 11:49 am

I’m suprised no one has thanked Clinton. It was Clinton who placed the rendition program as we know it in place, Between Clinton’s rendition, Cheney’s enhanced interogation, the lead that started all this was obtained in what sound like ’07. That idea that torture doesn’t work looks like it was just proved wrong. If we hadn’t sat on our asses handing out gitmo lattes, Koran Comic books and started putting the screws to these bastards perhaps it would have gone an lot earlier.

I like this Obama! We killed the chick human shield the coward hid behind. No regrets. We said screw a trial, guilty, and popped UBLs insead of arresting him. We still rendition, Gitmo is open for business, and traitors like Bradley Manning are held naked and hoepfully starved in a cold cell whining he deserves a pillow. Bush or Obama, hell I don’t care! Funny how the same people guffawing and objecting to giving Bush 43 any credit for this are the same people that blame him for 9/11 happening in the first place.

You can’t assess the blame of something that happened NINE months into his term to him — surely it took longer than 9 months to plan 9/11, right? So… it would stand to reason that Clinton dropped the ball on 9/11 in the first place.

You want to blame him for something that happened a few months into his term, yet give Obama credit for something that happened 2 years into his term? How does that make sense? Just as it surely took longer than 9 months to plan 9/11, it took longer than 2 years to plan this raid that led to bin Laden’s end.

Politico, among others, has a great article detailing the painstaking process of finding and following the intel that led to yesterday’s events. The courier was identified in 2007 — PRE-OBAMA ADMINISTRATION. It took our people following him and the intel for over 3 years to bring us to yesterday’s kill.

Obama just happened to be the sitting president when it all went down. All credit goes to our SEALs and our intelligence community, NOT to Obama.

  76. S Webster on May 2nd, 2011 12:10 pm

The courageous and highly skilled Navy SEALS pulled this off. Neither present nor past presidents were activily involved in the countless hours of training and neither was near the danger when the raid took place. Put the blame where it belongs if you want, but DO GIVE THE CREDIT TO THOSE WHO ACTUALLY PERFROMED THE DEED.

GOD BLESS OUR MILITARY – All of them. AND GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!

  77. Mick on May 2nd, 2011 12:30 pm

Sick teabaggers! This is just sad. Bush said just 6 months after 9/11, he was that concerned about him. Meanwhile, in 2009, Obama made it a top priority, to seek out and kill Bin Laden!

  78. luckydawn on May 2nd, 2011 12:48 pm

the people at Bush house is very turned arounded. If Bush had sent the military support to afganistan like Pres. Obama did we would have had Bin Laden by now. he hoose to give a little miltary to afganistan and sent out military in droves to Irag whick had nothing to do with Bin Laden. he (Bush) said Saddam H is treating his people badly and we need to go there, not wanting to get Osama for the attack on americans. beside anyone can see that Bush did not want to capture Osama B Laden. some of these people have such a memory lapse after 2 weeks.

  79. Daniel Southard on May 2nd, 2011 12:48 pm

Obama doesn’t have the … to make any kind of a decision of the caliber that it took to put our troops in harms way. All credit goes to Bush for making that decision back in 2001 and for our troops for stepping up.

The danger to America is not Alqaeda, but the American ignorance that is growing in the country. Bush, Clinton dropped the ball. Obama cleaned up the mess. But since most Americans are too stupid and racist to see that an African American picked up the ball, they continue to live in their imaginary utopia. The fall of America will be from within….guaranteed.

Obama did NOTHING different. It just came to fruition under Obama’s watch. Geez…..every day I’m saddened even more to learn how STUPID so many Americans are.

  85. spring on May 2nd, 2011 12:58 pm

The only thing Bush did was lie about a war that nearly bankrupted this country! Maybe just maybe he would get credit if he had originally started out looking for Osama Bin Laden rather than making sure his family was protected and out of the country after 9/11. Bush out of his own mouth stated he was no longer concerned about Bin Laden but yet Rove made sure that tid bit got washed out of the new waves quickly! Bush, Chaney, and Rove should all be in prison for treason for what they did to our great country! Bush did not even go into Pakistan until the last 1 or 2 of his broken down presidency and that was mainly to get voters support for the Republican party, hell even his own party members didn’t want to have a darn thing to do with him! It is idiots like them who pushed Bush on this country for 8 years and thank God he only had 2 terms when it should have been 1 because I believe the fools of this country would have elected him a 3rd term.

Yes, the military men and women, military leaders and President Obama deserves all the credit for desolving this criminal! Bush did nothing but leave our country in shame and despair! I wish he could be written out of our history as a bad decision and memory. Obama has done many good things and made some tough decision for our country but you’ll never know because from day one with the man making not one decision as president the republicans, racist morons that hide behind the microphone of talk radio and so on have made darn sure no one know what he has accomplished.

Congratulations to the military leaders who planned, the military men and women who executed and stayd the way for their and our freedom and to President Obama who kept his campaign promise to find Osama Bin Laden!

Gotta love when they say anyone was the worst president over Obama, a man who has done nothing and successfully driven the nation further into a deficit in just a year’s time then any president before him.

Sorry kiddies, but Bush does deserve credit for having pushed for the war on terror. Obama, if you recall, wanted to pull our forces out immediately; but, the dumb ass realized he couldn’t once the Pentagon briefed him. So credit goes to the Bush administration for having made the effort. Obama simply rode in on the coat-tails and is getting credit for work our military forces were already undertaking during President Bush’s presidency.

    Peace out ya sheep.

SMU students who are Bush bashing, why aren’t you also pounding on Clinton for his inability to catch/stop Bin Laden?

1993 was Bin Laden’s 1st try at blowing up World Trade Center Towers, 1993 was also Somolia incursion (Black Hawk Down) again links to Al-Qaeda surfaced.
In 1998 Dir of Central Intelligence Counterterrorist Center advised Pres Clinton Al-Qaeda was planning to attack US & it included training members to hijack commercial aircraft. Then 1998 attacks on Kenya/Tanzania Embassy buildings followed by USS Cole bombing in 2000. All during Clinton’s Presidency..

Hunt for Osama Bin Laden started in early 1990′s & continued through 3 Presidential Admin.until Elite Navy Seals finally ended it.
    .
This was never Rep vs Dem issue, Pres Obama understands this & that’s why he showed respect & took the time to notify both former Pres Clinton & Bush prior to the news being made public.

  100. Caroline on May 2nd, 2011 1:54 pm

Bush’s administration declared the war on terrorism. We thanked him for keeping our country strong in a time of need. This isn’t a war about intelligence verse stupidity. This isn’t a war about Obama verse Bush. This is a war on terrorism. Bush is merely the closest figure to us that we could support. The underline tone of our acts was not “We hate Obama”. It was “Let freedom ring”. We thank Bush and Obama. But most of all we thank the men and women who fight for us. Without them, we would be nothing. With them, we are everything.

Bush had as many chances as Obama. Bush failed. Take a poll and know that all the people outside the gates of the Bush compound were REPUBLICANS who can’t or won’t say thank you to a deserving democratic President.

It’s erroneous to give Bush or Obama credit for this act, though anyone can give several partisan reasons why either one deserves the credit of some sort. However, let’s not blame Bush for failing to capture him either. We should indeed recognize that at the time we were up against the Taliban and other government forces that were less than our allies in Afghanistan and Pakistan. That took much time, effort, and ultimately bloodshed to overcome. Obama carried forward what was already in place and it is nothing more than partisanship to throw too much credit his way. His speech last night was something for the American public to be proud. However, if we are going to assign credit or blame for any of this, let’s not forget to step a little further back and note that Bin Laden was ripe for the taking while Bill Clinton was too distracted to do much of anything outside the Oval Office. GW Bush inherited the mess waiting for him as 9/11 was already well in the works as a carry over from the neglect of the prior administration. Likewise, Obama inherited the international political gains, CIA intelligence, and efforts of the prior 10 years from the prior administration. If you’re going to thank Obama for catching Bin Laden, then you need to thank Bush too. But I don’t see any President more to blame here than Clinton.

If anything had gone wrong while tracking Osama, if those brave Seals had hit a wrong target, President Obama would have gotten the blame and not Bush because it happened under his watch. Why then would someone be saying he shouldn’t take the credit for getting Osama. To those who hate Obama (for obvious reasons), he changed the war strategy when he came into office; one of his strategies of increased drone strikes has killed more terrorist in Afghanistan in less than 3 yrs than Bush did in his 8 yrs in office. He said in 2008 that if he finds Osama in Pakistan and the host govt. is not performing, he would order US to take out Osama. He has done that and he, as the Commander in Chief, and all the military and intel. deserves the credit. Hatred for him doesn’t change that fact of history. GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Just because of the color of a persons – skin. Bush didn’t have ANYTHING to do with the death of Osama Bin Laden. But I guess since so many ignorant liberals wanted to see OUR President birth certificate, this should be no surprise that they are trying to give Bush credit. It was the policies and procedures set up under President Bushs’ administration against the War on Terror that led to the death of UBL. I doubt you can get past your BDS but I’ll give you a chance. I just don’t see the connection of why President Obama should be thanking former Pres. W. Bush.

  116. Finally on May 2nd, 2011 2:31 pm

Why do we thank Bush? Because he spent years setting up for the plans that Obama just executed. Obama did his part too. But remember, Obama just used the resources that Bush put together over his eight year tenure. Had the positions been reversed, Obama would have started the ball rolling, then Bush would have finished it off. Either way, thanks to Bush for starting the process and standing firm on its execution. He may have not been the one who finally got him, but without Bush’s involvement, Obama would still be trying to find donors for his reelection.

How pathetic and uninformed some people truly are. The lead, or “thread” that ultimately led to Bin Laden being fed a lead sandwich last night was a direct result of enhanced interrogation measures. KSM originally gave up the initial information on Bin Laden’s courier in 2003. In 2007, the full ID of the courier had been confirmed. By the time Obama took office, the intelligence community was already narrowing down the location of this courier inside Pakiston.
This takes nothing away from Pres. Obama. He kept the intelligence protocols and integrity in place to see this manhunt to the end. He deserves a great deal of credit for this major accomplishment. To say, however, that Pres. Bush does not deserve any credit only goes to show your ignorance of the facts. This day would likely not have come about had Pres. Bush’s intel gathering policies not been implemented. Congratulations to Pres. Obama, Pres. Bush, Sec. Gates, Sec. Brennan, the Navy SEALs, the CIA and all members of the intelligence community, and all members of our armed forces who have put their lives on the line, and made the sacrifices, in the war on terror. As a veteran of both the Iraq and Afghan wars, it’s truly a proud day for me. My heart goes out to all who lost family, friends, and fellow firefighters and police officers on Sept. 11. I hope this day brings you a sense of justice and closure you so rightly deserve.

@Steve at 10:30am “President Bush supplied the rifle” ??

Wow…. that’s just a total denial of what really happened in real life. 1) Bush said he “didn’t care where OBL was, it’s not a priority” as documented by many other posters here. That is a fact, you can look up his words. 2) President Obama campaigned on getting us out of Iraq (done) and involved in Afghanistan where the real battle against terror exists. 3) President Obama campaigned on finding OBL and bringing him to justice.

All the assets that assisted in killing Bin Laden were available to Bush, but Bush didn’t care — in his own words.

President Obama assigned Navy Seal teams to the CIA, gave them the priority to kill Bin Laden, gave them the assets and resources to do it, held repeated meetings and ordered the actual attack. Bush, on the contrary, ordered Delta Force to withdraw from the Tora Bora mountains, and Bin Laden escaped.

All these things can be looked up. They are facts. Facts are not liberal or conservative. They are just facts.

President Obama has been quietly meeting with Intelligence, CIA and Military since August 2010 planning the capture and/or death of Bin Laden. He stated in 2007 that he would get Bin Laden and did it in 2 1/2 years of his presidency. Don’t y’all think its time to give credit where credit is due instead of making a mockery of our president?

First off how dare any of you treat President Bush in that way. He was the leader of this great nation theough many tough years and those who speak low of him are a sad group of Americans. President Obama did a great job with his plan to send Seal Team 6 in there to get the job done, this allowed us to make sure he was taken out and to gather more information. The reason Obama he was able to issue this plan was because of President Bush’s constant effort in searching for this evil man. For those who say President Bush failed in his mission are uneducated and do not understand how much time, money, and man power it takes to find a person like OBL. Credit should be given to both presidents, they have made me proud to be an American……And those who speak low of SMU….sorry you didnt get in and hate our amazing students who work around the clock to further their education and better America….Dont worry if you cant through the addmissions and are envious of SMU students you will be able to work amung them and use the new Bush center when it opens…..God Bless America
