After being inaugurated as SMU’s 96th Student Senate Vice President, Allison Reyes sat down to share her excitement.

“Once I joined Senate, I knew that I wanted to be even more involved in the organization. So being inaugurated as Student Body Vice President was a great honor, and I am enthusiastic for next year to began so that I can help Senate accomplish all of the goals that SMU students have set out for us,” Reyes said.

Reyes will to work along side the new Senate President, Patrick Kobler, to accomplish five goals in the upcoming 2009-2010 school year: reinstating the Diversity Committee, getting a student on the committee that’s in charge of the academic calendar, bringing diplomas back to graduation ceremonies, reforming the social registration policy and installing a lighted crosswalk near Sorority Row.

Reyes believes being a team player is key in her roal as Vice President. She wants to make sure to represent the study body to the best of her ability.

“One thing I really want the Student Body to know it that, my door will ALWAYS be open and I hope that any student with a concern will come to the SAMSA and let me know about it and how I can help them,” Reyes said.

Come one, come all! SMU Student Foundation presents their annual Mane Event Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. in the main quad. Students can come out for some friendly competition, food, games, entertainment, prizes and more.

“It’s the last day of classes and students deserve a break! It is also a longstanding university tradition,” said Keelie Rood, Director of Administration.

For a little fun, Mane Event will have photo booths, henna tattoos, fortune tellers and caricatures.

If you’re in more of an inflatable mood, obstacle courses, sumo wrestling, and inflatable zip lines (provided by the Program Council) will be set up to compete against your friends.

But why just go for the fun and inflatables? It will feel like you’re at the Texas State Fair with turkey legs, snow cones, cotton candy, and popcorn to go around. Venders like Wild About Harry’s Custard, Pluckers, and Quesa-d-ya’s will also be on the grounds to give your tastebuds a treat.

Last, but not least make sure to put on your dancing shoes. A Dance Contest will take place and prizes will be awarded.

Mane Event is free and open to all students, faculty and staff.
